With its outstanding geo-strategic position in the heart of Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo is the crossing point of all road corridors between North and South, East and West of the continent.
Thus, different African markets could not be unified without passing through the DRC. It is a pivotal country or a prospective transit land.
Due to that reason, it belongs to several African sub-regional economic communities which expand its market to several countries at the same time. These include :
- The SADC (265 million consumers)
- COMESA (416 million consumers)
- ECCAS (120 million consumers)
- The ICGLR (82.1 million consumers)
Thus, the Free Trade Area to be created between COMESA, EAC and SADC will encompass about 565 million consumers.
